National Offshore Wind Research and Development Consortium (NOWRDC) selects LAUTEC as part of a consortium to conduct the Right Wind project.
The Right Wind project, funded by the National Offshore Wind Research and Development Consortium, aims to increase our understanding of right whales in wind energy areas. Coming with different areas of expertise, New England Aquarium, Cornell University’s K. Lisa Yang Center for Conservation Bioacoustics, and LAUTEC US have been selected to conduct this project.
Offshore Wind Expertise
As part of the Right Wind project, we aim to develop a decision support tool that helps offshore wind developers protect endangered whale species. LAUTEC draws on extensive experience in offshore wind, including planning, budgeting, and risk management. Among other things, we will demonstrate the financial risks of uncertainty in understanding right whale distributions.

About NOWRDC
The National Offshore Wind Research and Development Consortium, established in 2018, is a not-for-profit public-private partnership focused on advancing offshore wind technology in the United States through high-impact research projects and cost-effective and responsible development to maximize economic benefits. Funding for the Consortium comes from the U.S. Department of Energy and the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, with each providing $20.5 million, as well as contributions from the Commonwealths of Virginia and Massachusetts and the States of Maryland, Maine, and New Jersey, bringing total investment to approximately $47 million.
