Lead Project Controls Manager – Renewable Energy

We are seeking a Lead Project Controls Manager for our Hamburg-based project, part of an ambitious renewable energy initiative connecting Morocco and Europe. 

The Role 

As the Lead Project Controls Manager, you will be at the forefront of delivering one of the most ambitious renewable energy projects in Europe. Based in Hamburg, Germany, you will take a lead role in overseeing project controls for a groundbreaking energy initiative, ensuring seamless integration and alignment across all project phases. Your responsibilities will span planning, cost control, risk management, interface management, change  management, record management and stakeholder coordination, contributing to the successful delivery of a high-impact infrastructure project. You will be the cornerstone of our efforts to ensure the project is delivered on time, within budget, and aligned with the highest safety, quality, and sustainability standards.  

Collaborating closely with internal teams and external stakeholders, you will drive the strategic direction of the project controls function while mentoring and developing your team to achieve excellence. Additionally, you will play a vital role in ensuring LAUTEC’s project management practices continue to evolve and align with global best practices. 

What You’ll Do 

  • Develop and implement project controls strategies, focusing on planning, cost management, change control, and risk mitigation. 
  • Lead the preparation and delivery of cost, schedule, risk, and document control processes and reporting. 
  • Manage a team of project controls resources with the initial responsibility to establish the team. 
  • Lead project budgets, track expenses, and ensure adherence to financial constraints. 
  • Lead risks identification, develop mitigation strategies, and implement risk management frameworks. 
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and obtain necessary documentation and approvals. 
  • Provide comprehensive project reporting to internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Develop and mentor project teams, fostering a culture of continuous learning and high performance. 
  • Oversee the integration of Project Controls and PMO processes across Client offices and geographies. 

What We’re Looking For 

Bringing the below skills and qualities will make it easier to succeed in the role of Project Controls Manager: 

  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in engineering, business, or a related field.  
  • 10+ years of experience in project controls or PMO management 
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills.  
  • Experience in managing project budgets and resources.  
  • Knowledge of project management methodologies, tools, and techniques.  
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools and flexibility to work with Project Controls software.   
  • Proficiency in project management software, such as Microsoft Project or Primavera P6  
  • Ability to manage and develop teams effectively. Experience with teams above 10 staff is recommended. 
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.  
  • Fluency in English and excellent communication skills, enabling you to present complex matters in a professional and straightforward way. 
  • Fluency in German or Spanish is an advantage.
